GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test)

Graduate Aptitude Test, GATE is National Level Exam conducted every year jointly by the seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Candidates who qualify for the cutoff scores will be eligible to get admission in M.Tech programs by IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and STIs. IIT Bombay will release the GATE 2021 online form on the official website. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an online national level examination for Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (MTech), and direct PhD admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other institutes/universities throughout India. On behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB - GATE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource and Development, the exam is jointly conducted on a rotational basis by IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and Indian Institute for Science, Bangalore (IISC Bangalore). The GATE 2021 exam was held in online mode at 206 exam centres within India and six exam centres outside India on February 6-7 and February 13-14 by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. The first shift of GATE 2021 was held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the second shift was held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The GATE 2021 Admit Card was issued on January 8 by the authority. The organising institute for GATE 2022 is IIT Kharagpur. GATE is jointly administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee. Azonal GATE Office at the IITs or IISc is in charge of GATE operations in each of the eight areas. The Organizing Institute (OI) is in charge of the entire process as well as cooperation between the implementing Institutes.

GATE 2021: Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants should have completed a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master's degree (M.Sc) in any related subject in science or must be in the final year of the program.
  • There is no minimum pass percentage in the qualifying degree when applying for GATE 2021.
  • There is no age limit for candidates to apply for GATE 2021

Engineering Mathematics would not be a part of the GATE 2021 for some of the disciplines for For these, the General aptitude portion would be 15% marks and the remaining 85% marks would be for the core subject. The disciplines for the same are listed below

Exam Pattern for GATE 2022 ES

The Engineering Mathematics section will be mandatory for candidates who choose ES (Environmental Science and Engineering), and it will account for 15% (15 marks) of the weightage of the total marks.

  • The candidates must also complete the General Aptitude portion, which accounts for 15% (15 marks) of the weightage of the total marks.
  • The remaining 70% of the marks (70 points) will be allocated to the subject article, which will be worth a total of 85 points.
  • The exam will have a cumulative score of 100 points.
  • The candidates will be given 180 minutes to complete the exam.
  • The exam will consist of a mix of MCQs, MSQs, and NAT questions.
  • Negative marking for MCQs is -1/3 for a 1 mark question and -2/3 for a 2 mark question.


GATE 2021: Syllabus

  • The syllabus for GATE 2021 will be exactly the same as your graduation syllabus for each discipline.
  • The general aptitude section will have a common syllabus for all 25 papers.
  • For some of the disciplines, engineering mathematics will be compulsory and for some chemistry will be compulsory.
  • If you choose any of the two subjects among Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Zoology, Food Technology then chemistry will become the compulsory subject.

GATE 2021: Application Process

GATE 2021 Application Forms are likely to be available in the month of September 2021. GATE 2021 Application will be done online only. Candidates need to apply and pay the application fees online at the official website for GATE 2021:

Step 1 : Registration:

  • Candidates have to register through GOAPs by filling in their name, email id, and mobile number to generate an enrollment id.

Step 2: Filling of Application Form:

  • After registration, the second step is to fill the application form that will be available from September 2021. Candidates have to fill all the mandatory fields carefully. You can choose the preferred exam center while filling the online application form.

Step 3: Uploading Images:

  • Once you are done with the application form, you need to upload the scanned copy of the recent photograph, signature and category certificate (if required) as per the specifications provided below.

After the completion of the application fee, candidates can submit their application forms. Candidates are advised to check their forms before final submission.


GATE 2021: Application Form Correction

GATE 2021 aspirants have the facility to make corrections in the application form for a period of time. The official notification for GATE 2021 Application Form Correction will be released by the conducting body so that you can do the corrections. Only a few changes in some particular sections are permitted. Some changes that can be corrected are:

Admit Card for GATE 2021

On January 8, 2021, the GATE 2021 admit card was announced. It should be remembered that only those who successfully complete the GATE Application Form 2021 will receive a GATE admit card. Candidates must log in with their registration information, which includes Enrollment ID and Password on GOAPS, in order to download the GATE 2021 admit card online. Steps to download GATE Admit Card 2021

The GATE 2021 admit card is available online at IIT Bombay. Test takers can download their GATE 2021 admit card/hall ticket by following the steps outlined below.

  • Step 1: To obtain the GATE 2021 admit card, go to the above-mentioned "GATE 2021 Admit Card/Hall Ticket" page.
  • Step 2: You will be directed to IIT Bombay's official website, where you must click on the "Download GATE 2021 Admit Card" page.
  • Step 3: Enter your GATE login credentials (Enrollment ID/registered E-mail ID, Password, and Security Text) after clicking the connection.
  • Step 4: Select the ‘Submit button.
  • Step 5: The admit card for GATE 2021 will be shown on the screen.
  • Step 6: Before printing the GATE admit card, double-check the information you've entered.
  • Step 7: Save the GATE 2021 admit card to your device.
  • Step 8: Print the GATE admit card in colour for future reference.

Result of GATE (Scorecard Out)

The GATE 2021 result was announced on March 19 by IIT Bombay, and the scorecard was released on March 27. The GATE 2021 cutoff for all papers has been released along with the results. The GATE 2021 result has been announced, along with the qualifying cutoff marks for all 27 papers/subjects. GATE 2021 scorecards can be downloaded by logging into the GATE Online Application Process System by candidates who took the test (GOAPS).


Steps to Check GATE Results

You will get your GATE 2021 result by following the steps below:

  • The GATE Online Application Process System (GOAPS) website can be found here.
  • Select 'Download GATE 2021 Result' from the drop-down menu.
  • To log in, enter your login credentials, which include your GATE Enrolment Number/Email Address and Password.
  • The result of GATE 2021 will be shown on the screen.
  • The GATE scorecard can be downloaded and printed for future rounds.


GATE: Cut off

  • Candidates should be aware of GATE qualifying Cut Off and GATE Admission Cut Off:
  • The minimum number of marks that candidates should score to qualify for the exam is GATE Qualifying Cut Off for 2020. This cut-off will be different for different disciplines. And it will also vary based on the category of the candidates. GATE qualifying cut-off will be released by the conducting body once after a month of the exam date.
  • The minimum marks that a candidate needs to get admission in the college are GATE Admission Cut Off 2020. This cut-off is announced by individual institutes depending on the number of seats, the number of applicants, category of applicants, etc.

Counselling for GATE 

The GATE 2020 counselling process will be held to provide admissions to candidates who have earned the minimum qualifying marks in the GATE 2021 entrance exam. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will conduct their own centralised counselling procedure to induct qualifying students who took the GATE 2020 exam in 2020. The GATE 2021 counselling process can vary depending on the type of institute that the candidates choose. For example, to obtain a spot in any of the IITs via the GATE counselling process 2021, candidates must first register for the Popular Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP), which will offer admission to qualified candidates based on their GATE 2020 scores. Candidates must first register for Centralized Counselling for M.Tech admission to Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) (CCMT).
