A national-level admission exam conducted by the NTA to accept BE/BTech, B.Plan and BArch courses at IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), NITs (National Institute of Technology) and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country is the main or generally referred to as JEE Main.

JEE Main 2021: Eligibility Criteria:


NTA has released the JEE Main 2021 eligibility criteria for B.Tech, B.Arch, and BPlan exams. To be considered for the JEE Main Test, candidates should fulfill all the eligibility criteria in order to fill out the application form, the applicants must check the requirements for JEE Main 2021.

Age Criteria: No age cap for applicants appearing in the main JEE

 Year of Appearance

  • Eligible candidates are candidates who have passed their Class 12 exam or other similar qualifying test in 2018 or 2019.
  • Those who appear in their 2020 Class 12 or any similar qualifying exam are also qualified to participate in the January and April sessions.
  • Applicants who have passed the Class 12/Qualifying exam in 2017 or earlier, as well as those who will be tested in 2021 or later, are not qualified for JEE (Main)-2020.

Qualifying subjects: In order to be qualified, candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12 / qualifying test.

 Qualifying marks:

  • In order to appear in JEE Mains, the minimum qualifying marks needed by aspirants (for admission to NITs, IIITs, IITs, and CFTIs) are 75% or candidates should be in the top 20 percentile in the Class 12 exam carried out by the respective Boards.
  • The minimum qualification mark is 65 percent for reserved candidates.

Total attempts

  • For three consecutive years, an applicant is permitted to attempt the exam
  • In total, the number of attempts will be six, twice a year for three years. 


Steps to fill the Application Form for Jee Mains 2021:


Follow the instructions to apply for Jee Main 2021:


Step-1: Use your own email address and phone number to register online for Jee Mains through the official website of NTA

Step-2: Fill out the Online Application Form and keep track of the Application Number created by the system.

Step-3: Upload scanned photgraph of: (i) the recent images(file size should be 10Kb – 200Kb) should be either in colour or black & white with 80% face (without mask) visible including ears against white background; (ii) applicant's signature (file sizeshould be : 4kb - 30kb); (iii) duly verified result awaited attestation form (file size should be: 50kb to 500kb), (iv) reserved category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS etc.) (file size should be: 50kb to 300KB), (v) PwD certificate (file size should be: 50kb to 300kb) in jpg/jpeg format.

Step-4: Pay the Application Fee with a debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI at SBI/Canara Bank/HDFC Bank/ICICI Bank/Paytm Payment Gateway and keep a copy of the receipt.

For future reference, download, save and print a copy of the Application Form's Confirmation Page (which will be available only after effective fee remittance).

*Each subject will be divided into two sections. Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) will cover Section A, while Questions with numerical values to fill in will be Section B. Candidates must attempt any five of the ten questions in Section B. For Section B, there would be no negative marking.


JEE Main 2021 Syllabus


On the official website, NTA has released the JEE Main 2021 syllabus for Papers 1, 2 and 3 in online mode. This year, BPlan has been divided from BArch by the authorities. The syllabus will help candidates to prepare for the exams accordingly.
