New Delhi: To help them diversify their educational profile, the SRM Institute has launched separate main and minor programs for students. In addition, a Semester Abroad Program (SAP) was also announced by the SRM Institute, as part of which students would be able to obtain two educational degrees at the same time. Students can receive two degrees upon completion of the course, one from an international institute and the other from the SRM Institute. As per their convenience, the students would be permitted to attend the classes in both online and offline modes. The SAP has been added to the Institutional Bank of Credits (ABC) system in order to allow students who are able to follow multiple programs versatility.

Sandeep Sancheti, SRM Vice-Chancellor, clarified the new academic curriculum when he said: "We are seeking to incorporate the students' Academic Bank of Credits system." In that case, students will take two classes overseas, whether offline or online, and the credit transfer will also be carried out. For any credits students have received, dual degrees assist the institution in credit transfer. They can also earn credits from international institutes and also offer diplomas.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued draft Academic Credit Bank regulations that promote the mobility of students through the scheme.

In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP), the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) scheme aims to encourage versatility of the curriculum system and interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary academic mobility of students through the country's higher education institutions through an effective 'credit transfer' mechanism.

The credit transfer system, according to the draft, "shall be a method to allow students to select their own learning route to obtain a degree/diploma/pg-diploma operating on the concept of multiple entry-multiple exits, as well as learning at any time, anywhere and at any stage."
