There are currently three JEE Advanced 2025 attempts; check additional eligibility

JEE Advanced 2025: Previously, candidates could only attempt the exam twice in two years.

This year, there are now three attempts instead of the previous two for the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced). A candidate may only take the JEE Advanced examination three times in three years, according to the updated guidelines.

Previously, there could only be two attempts in two years  consecutively.

Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2000, in order to meet the age requirement. SC, ST, and PwD applicants are granted a five-year age relaxation; that is, applicants must have been born on or after October 1, 1995

Eligibility for JEE Main 2025

The remaining requirements for JEE Advanced 2025 are unchanged. Applicants must rank among the top 2,50,000 applicants in the BE/BTech paper (Paper I) of JEE Main 2025, encompassing all categories. The announcement of the increase in attempts did, however, also mention that, in the event of "tied" ranks or scores in any category, the total number of applicants may be marginally higher than 2.5 lakh.

The following are the percentages of candidates in each category who will be shortlisted: The remaining 40.5% is OPEN to everyone, with 10% going to GEN-EWS, 27% to OBC-NCL, 15% to SC, and 7.5% to ST. PwD candidates are eligible for a 5% horizontal reserve within each of these five categories.

The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India ruled in a written petition (Civil) 891 / 2021 on February 3, 2023, that OCI/PIO candidates who obtained their cards before 04.03.2021 will be regarded as Indian nationals for the purpose of allocating seats to IITs.

With the exception of OPEN-PwD, these candidates are not qualified for any form of reservation advantages, such as GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, or ST.

Eligibility for JEE Main 2025: Performance in the Class 12 exam

Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics should have been required courses when a candidate completed the class 12 (or equivalent) exam in 2023, 2024, or 2025.

Whatever the combination or quantity of subjects attempted or provided, candidates who took the class 12 (or equivalent) test for the first time in 2022 or earlier are unable to take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam.

However, candidates of that Board who took the class 12 (or equivalent) exam in 2022 are also eligible to take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam, as long as they fulfill all other criteria for eligibility, if the examination board for class 12 (or equivalent) announced the results for the academic year 2021–22 on or after September 21, 2022.

A candidate will not be allowed to take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam if the examination board for class 12 (or equivalent) announced the results for the academic year 2021–22 before September 21, 2022, but the results of a specific candidate were not released for any reason.

Eligibility for JEE Main 2025: ahead of IIT entrance

Regardless of whether the candidate persisted in the program or accepted an IIT seat by reporting "online" or at a "reporting center," they should not have previously been admitted to an IIT under any academic program stated in the JoSAA Business Rules of 2024 or before. Candidates are also ineligible to take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam if their admission to an IIT was canceled (for any reason) after they joined any IIT.

Candidates may, however, take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam if they were accepted into an IIT preparatory course for the first time in 2024. Candidates are eligible to take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam if they obtained a seat at an IIT through JoSAA but failed to report "online," withdrawn before the final round of seat allocation for IITs, or had their seat canceled for any reason prior to the final round of seat allotment.
